Women's Leadership Council

Picture
The Council provides opportunities for all women to grow personally and professionally, and to build their influence in the community. The Council’s strategic goals including mentoring and growth, awareness and recognition, and resources, knowledge and connectivity. Every two years, WLC hosts a highly interactive, Women’s Leadership Upstate Conference, attracting over 250 women (March 2019).

Summer Circle
WLC has organized the Summer Circle youth camp, a one-week leadership program at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. WLC hosted 48 middle and high school students from Greenwood area schools who were encouraged and guided to reach their potential through meaningful activities and interactions. Various educators, businesses and local non-profits, community leaders, and WLC supporters mentored the girls throughout the week. Special thanks to FUJIFILM Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc. for sponsoring this year’s camp.

Leadership Scholars Initiative
The WLC awarded several scholarships to Greenwood County female students to participate in a summer leadership program at Columbia College, designed to help young women develop essential leadership skills.

The program offers team-based case studies, interactive workshops, assessment inventories, powerful female role models, meaningful community service projects, and personal and group feedback throughout the week. Attendees of the Women’s Leadership Upstate Conference help to financially support WLC’s Leadership Scholars
Suits & Salads
Held in the spring and the fall prior to the annual Job Fair, WLC sponsors a “Suits & Salads” event. WLC members recruit volunteers to assist female job seekers with new skills, interview tips, clothing and accessories prior to the bi-annual Job Fair. WLC collects clothing, organizes the event, and provides a complimentary salad lunch to attendees.
