The Chamber's NonProfit Council is proud to offer the Poverty Simulation Experience, along with our community sponsors. This is a unique tool that raises awareness about the struggles people living in poverty face. The experience benefits everyone, from policy makers to local community leaders. Participants role play different families encountering the day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress. Roles range from single parents caring for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self-sufficiency on Social Security. Each family’s task is to provide food, shelter, and other basic necessities while navigating complex systems low-income families interact with daily. This experience develops a multi-dimensional understanding of poverty through experiential learning.
