• Wilkinson Energizes Local Leaders

Bruce Wilkinson energized local leaders Tuesday when he delivered his keynote speech at the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Management Conference.
Wilkinson’s keynote, entitled “The Thermostat Leader,” focused on equipping front-line supervisors to handle a constantly changing workforce. Wilkinson also addressed the difference between leaders and managers and how to effectively harness each to achieve organizational excellence.
“Leaders inspire and develop differently, but reward and discipline consistently,” Wilkinson said. “Leaders inspire men and women to cooperate. Leadership is not linked to authority.”
Wilkinson’s presentation was part of the chamber’s day-long leadership conference entitled “Energizing Leaders: Plugging In and Powering Up.”
The conference included morning sessions focused on employment and basic human resources topics as well as breakout sessions in the afternoon.
“We wanted to equip our local leaders with the confidence and competence to manage effectively in the 21st century workplace,” said chamber president and CEO Angelle LaBorde. “We wanted to provide our members with timely, relevant and practical training in basic employment law, employee relations issues and critical leadership skills in order to shield them managers from legal pitfalls and leadership shortcomings. I feel like this conference addressed those issues.”
